Regulation of Studies

You are here: Home / Regulation of Studies
  1. Enrollment, registration and fees

In the beginning of each semester students enroll in the MA programme. After their enrollment, students register in the modules they wish to attend during the semester. In the elective modules the number of attendees must not exceed 15 students. Students can attend one elective module offered at another postgraduate programme after the consent of the Coordinating Committee.

In order to enroll students must pay the prescribed fees. There are no refunds for any reason (withdrawal, suspension of studies or failure). A special registration fee is required in case of suspension of studies for the completion of the MA dissertation.

  1. Organization of studies

The academic year comprises of two semesters. Each semester involves 13 teaching weeks. The winter semester begins on the first week of October and the spring semester begins on the third week of February.

The exact academic calendar is announced in the beginning of each academic year.

  1. Attendance

Attendance is mandatory. Attendance in a particular module is considered as sufficient provided that the students has been present in at least 85% of the teaching hours and has successfully passed the prescribed examinations or required essays.

Insufficient attendance (absences of more than 15% of the teaching hours of the whole programme) constitutes reason for dismissal from the Programme.

There is no possibility of absence from the MA dissertation seminar.

In certain cases, teaching can be organized in distant forms.

  1. Examinations

Student assessment is taking various forms: it can take place at the ending of each semester through written or oral examinations, it can be based on essays that are elaborated during the semester or it can be a combination of these forms.

There are two examination periods for each module: the first one is at the ending of each semester and the second from 1 to 10 of September. The examination of September is final for all modules.

In case of failure at an elective module in two subsequent examining periods, the student can apply to attend another elective module. In case of failure at a compulsory module the student is obliged to reattend it in the following academic year.

  1. Requirements for graduation

In order to graduate students are required to have completed all prescribed modules, Seminars and the MA dissertation within the time frame provided by this Regulation.

Failure in the examination of the MA dissertation constitutes reason for dismissal from the Programme.

  1. Suspension of studies

In case of mitigating circumstances (illness, confinement, military service etc.) students have the possibility to submit a reasonably documented application for suspension of studies. During the period of suspension all rights derived from student identity (medical care, reduced transport fares etc.) are suspended.

In order to continue studying students must reenroll in the programme, at least two weeks before the ending of the suspension period.

  1. Plagiarism

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens regulations regarding academic ethics are in effect in the MA “Education and Human Rights” as well.
