Critical Literacy and humor: An implementation for the 6th grade

The purposes of my postgraduate thesis are to investigate linguistic humor in class, its uses and functions, to approach as a linguistic phenomenon and to propose its integration into Greek  language teaching. Also, the aim of my research is to decode the social values and views that are inscribed in the humorous texts collected by the students and to cultivate their critical thinking in  relation to these texts.
The steps that were followed were the collection of written and electronic data by the students through books, magazines, leaflets and mostly websites. Then I identified the humorous  incongruities and the reasons why the events to which the texts refer, are presented as unexpected in relation to specific expectations. After that step followed the investigation of the attitudes and evaluations made through humor as well as of the social norms on which these evaluations are based.
Then, using the material that the children brought to class, I proceeded humor teaching plans based on the analysis of the phenomenon. The aim teaching humor is to children understand what humor is, on it is based and what are its consequences.
